RENEGADE RULES

** Renegade // Body **

  1. Cars must be stock appearing american made car or truck. No Jeeps. 102” wheel base minimum. Doors, fenders and quarter panels may be fabricated of steel or aluminum, but must be stock appearing. Must have steel OEM roof or stock appearing.

  2. Weight has to be 32000 lbs after the race with the driver.

  3. All cars must have a minimum of 060” firewall, and floor pan under the driver. Front firewall location may be moved for engine clearance. Firewall can be stock or made out of aluminum/steel. Firewall may be cut or moved for distributor clearance.

  4. All nose and tail pieces cannot be altered from stock. Rear tail area height and deck area width must remain within 2” of stock measurement.

  5. May use stock bumpers, or light weight tubing for bumpers. No push bars outside bumper covers front or rear. All cars must have a tow hook or chain on the front and rear of the car, all glass and plastics must be removed.

  6. 6” maximum spoiler height. May run side spoilers. 6” high x 12” long. May have one 4” spoiler inside the car.

  7. No exposed bars.

  8. All cars must have numbers clearly mounted on both doors and top of the car.

** Renegade // Chassis and suspension **

  1. Frames must be stock type, from front to rear, OEM or aftermarket. Johnson style chassis is allowed. Unibody may be tied together. X-bracing allowed.

  2. Front spring spacers are okay. Front and rear adjuster cups are okay. Rear screw jacks allowed rear. Spring buckets can’t be taller than 6” from stock height. Springs can be changed.

  3. Must have a full roll cage constructed of a min of 1 ½” tubbing. May replace rear frame rails with tubing. New frame rails may not extend any further forward than front leaf spring or trailing arm mount. May fabricate front leaf spring mount with one spring mounting hole only.

  4. Suspension must be in stock location. May run racing springs. No chrysler rear leaf springs on GM chassis. Front springs may be changed and adjustable buckets okay. Spring shackles okay. Upper A-Frame may be cut for caster. Non-adjustable tubular upper A-arms okay.

  5. Cross members may not be cut or altered except for fuel pump & oil pan clearance.

  6. brakes: Must have operating brakes, dual master cylinders ok. Steel rotors and calipers only, no exotic brake systems. Right front brake shut-off valve ok.

** Renegade // Shocks **

  1. Front shocks must remain in stock location.

  2. Steel body shocks only. No schrader valve, no knob or remote canister shocks allowed.

  3. Heim joints on shocks are okay

  4. No adjustable or aluminum shocks allowed.

  5. Must bolt within 6 inches of stock location; front and rear.

  6. Only one shock per corner.

  7. ** Renegade // Clutch and Transmission **

  8. Factory automatic or straight drive. Transmission must have all working gears.

  9. Clutch must be factory stock OEM style, no high performance.

  10. Automatic transmission with direct-drive shift kits allowed but must idle in gear with foot brake on.

  11. Bert, Brinn or Falcon transmissions allowed (150 lb weight penalty mounted forward of car centerline).

  12. Drive shaft loop mandatory. All drive shafts must be painted white for safety.

** Renegade // Carburetor **

  1. OEM Stock single line 2 barrel or 4 barrel for make. May run Holley 650 #4777.

  2. May run 2” maximum carburetor spacer .040” tolerance, at no point may the spacer extend into the intake manifold area. With 2 standard thickness carburetor gaskets, .070” maximum thickness. Either engine. This includes both the 4412 2-barrel (500 cfm max) or the 4150 4-barrel carb (750 cfm max).

  3. 602 crate engines may run any 4150 series four barrel carburetor, must add 50 lbs. weight in front of the firewall.

** Renegade // Distributor **

  1. Any stock appearing distributor type. Electronic ignition is allowed. MSD is ok. No magneto’s, and no crank trigger systems.

  2. May run brass distributor gear.

** Renegade // Starter **

  1. All cars must have starter and in working order. Car must start and pull out on its own.

** Renegade // Water Pump **

  1. Stock type cast or aluminum permitted.

  2. No electric water pump.

  3. Manual fans only, no electric fans.

** Renegade // Exhaust **

  1. Collector type headers required.

  2. Must have four (4) tubes into one (1) collector of a consistent diameter.

  3. No tri-y headers, merged headers or weed-burners allowed. Mufflers are required.

** Renegade // fuel cell - fuel pump **

  1. Any approved 22 gal. or smaller fuel cell MUST be securely mounted in the trunk area of the car, inside a .20 gauge metal box supported by a minimum of two 2" by 1/8" steel straps.

  2. Pump gasoline or racing gas only.

  3. Carter fuel pump or stock fuel pump is allowed. A.N. fittings allowed.

** Renegade // Tires and Wheels **

  1. 8 inch steel wheels maximum. Beadlocks allowed outward facing only.

  2. Hoosier H500 or Towell City recaps (American Racer 26.5 / 27.5 / 8.0 / 15 medium compounds or harder).

  3. Large wheel studs and lug nuts are okay.

  4. No grooving, siping, soaking, or needling allowed. All tires must meet manufacturer benchmarks.

** Renegade // Engine**

  1. Engine has to be stock, and must be the same make as the car.

  2. High performance is allowed.

  3. Cubic inch - Chevy 350 C.I. - Ford - 351 C.I. - Chrysler - 360 C.I.

  4. Block-stick cast iron OEM, may overbore .060 MAX. May deck block to .000 deck only.

  5. Crankshaft - Factory stock for engine running or Scat part # 4-350-3480-5700 or 4-350-3480-5700-L or Eagle part # ESP103503480 and ESP103523480 only. No cutting allowed.

  6. Rods can be factory stock for engine running. No work allowed of any kind. May run any rod bolt. May run Eagle rod part #ESP5700BPLW or Scat part #SCA-25700P. Floating pin is okay.

  7. May use any flat top or dish stock replacement piston, forged or Hypereutectic. Flat top piston must have 4 valve reliefs (factory). Must use the standard wide ring package. 5/64th”, 3/16th”. Coating on skirts is okay.

  8. Intake must be factory stock, cast iron, low rise only. Valley pan is okay. Option 2 - Edelbrock park #5001 Torker ll or edelbrock part #2101 Performer. Must remain box stock, no alterations. 1” aluminum carb spacer is allowed.

  9. May run roller rockers 1.5 ratio for Chevy, 3/8 stud, no stud girdles allowed. For other engine manufacturers, stock rocker ratio. Stainless steel valves must be 1.94 intake, 1.5 exhaust.

  10. Dart head 10024361 and World Products 043600 heads are allowed.

  11. Camshaft must be flat tappet Hydraulic lifters only. Any timing chain. May degree camshaft. Open duration .425 maximum lift for chevrolet; others will be .450 maximum lift.

  12. Exhaust system can be any standard 4 into 1 collector header. Any length pipe must stay the same diameter. No coatings allowed. No tri-y’s No “x” or merge type pipes allowed.

  13. Exhaust EVAC system is okay.

  14. GM 602 crate engine sealed or unsealed, will be checked at track.

  15. Quicksilver 357CT engine #8M0156572 will be allowed.

** Renegade // Drives **

  1. Stud mount rockers only. No stud girdles. Stock diameter valve springs only, 1.25” maximum o.d. beehive springs allowed.

  2. This engine option may run either of the two carbs listed, but if use the 4412 2-barrel carb (500 cfm max) and receive a 100 lbs. weight break.

** Renegade // Safety rules**

  1. Window nets are mandatory. Sprint-style window nets will not be permitted. Good quality full face racing helmets or DOT approved helmets are required.

  2. Minimum single-layer fire suit required. (SA 3.2A specification recommended)

  3. Fire proof gloves are strongly recommended. (SFI 3.3 specification recommended)

  4. A 4 or 5 point harness, properly mounted per manufacturers’ specifications, is required.

  5. Belts must have been manufactured in the last 5 years. Any worn, abraded or torn belts must be replaced.

  6. A 5 lb. (or greater) fire extinguisher must be securely mounted within the drivers’ reach.

  7. Only racing-type seats, properly mounted per manufacturers’ specifications, are allowed.

  8. A head-and-neck restraint system is mandatory (SFI 16.1 compliant recommended).

  9. A firewall must be in place between the driver compartment and fuel cells, fuel lines, or tanks.

  10. Safety chains must remain securely fastened on the front and rear of the racecar at all times.

  11. Any time a car is on the track all safety gear is required.

  12. Must have a fire extinguisher and seat belts that are up to date. Fire suppression is recommended.

  13. Race receivers are mandatory.

  14. No radios allowed.

  15. All cars must have a kill switch within easy reach of the driver and track personnel, and clearly marked “on” and “off”.

  16. All cars must have a quality fuel cell with roll over valve (check valve) in fuel cell vent.

  17. ALL weight/lead must be painted white and include the car number. Weight must be securely fastened to the car with a minimum two (2) ½” diameter bolts. No weight may be attached to the back bumper. No weight is to be mounted no higher than the decking of the car and not allowed in the cockpit with the driver. Losing weight in any race (i.e. heat, b-main, feature) will result in disqualification for that event and subject to safety violations and suspensions.

Safety chains must remain securely fastened on the front and rear of the car at all times or you will be immediately disqualified.

Competitors must present cars for inspection prior to participating in any racing event. A pre-race inspection will be made ONLY to ensure safety protocols have been adhered to. Questions of legality can and will be answered during the pre-race inspection if asked by an entrant. No guarantee of legality shall be expressed or implied during pre-race inspection. Legality will be determined in post-race inspection. Fairgrounds Raceway has final ruling on all questions of legality.

Fairgrounds Raceway officials have every right to change the rules if deemed necessary at any point during the season. Officials may be open to changing rules if it is best for the majority of the class.
